NZXT IU01 Internal USB Expansion (Black) Review

NZXT IU01 Internal USB Expansion (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The NZXT IU01 is the perfect solution for the longstanding problem of not having enough USB HEADERS on your motherboard.
There seems to be some confusion so I will explain. This device adds three USB headers to your motherboard. A USB header is normally located on your motherboard and serves to connect two USB PORTS. What ends up happening many times is that a computer will have four external USB ports on the front of their case and only two USB motherboard headers. Both headers will be taken up on the motherboard (2 USB ports per header), thus preventing anything else from being connected such as a fan controller or an internal media card reader. This bad boy, the NZXT IUO1, comes to the rescue and pops out three more headers inside of your computer case. Note that this card also comes with two USB ports on it to connect a standard USB device such as a flash dongle, wireless dongle, bluetooth dongle, or a myriad of other dongles. These extra two ports on the NZXT IU01 are presumably to be used for something that you want to leave permanently inside of your case, or at least for an extended period of time. Once you close the case up you will not have easy access to any of these ports until you reopen the case.
Note that you will have to open your case to install this sucker. As always follow the usual safety protocol when doing so. Disconnect the power!!! Discharge any static electricity! Wear a static bracelet if you are not too seasoned at keeping static away from delicate electronic parts. Consult your manual beforehand!
Also note, that while it says that it adds three USB headers to your motherboard, one will have to be utilized in connecting the NZXT IU01 to your motherboard so in total you will add a net of 2 USB headers and two internal ports.
Installation was relatively easy. It comes with a double sided tape to adhere itself to a convenient spot of your choosing inside of the case. It also comes with the appropriate cabling that looks to be pretty good quality. The only point of criticism would be the small font with which the instructions are printed. While I was able to read them, people with difficulty seeing small things up close will probably benefit from a magnifying glass.

The IU01 addresses an issue common to most gaming PCs that is a lack of substantial power and expandability from the front-panel USBs. The IU01 enhances control and boosts power for front-panel USB devices by connecting them directly to the power supply as opposed to the motherboard, ensuring that there is always enough power to control your accessories and peripherals. The IU01 also adds six internal USB ports that are great for powering items that you don't need constant access too like a Bluetooth module or USB wireless router allowing you to free up the external ports for additional accessories.

Cisco-Linksys Dual-Band Wireless A/G Media Center Extender WMCE54AG Review

Cisco-Linksys Dual-Band Wireless A/G Media Center Extender WMCE54AG
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I really like this product. I really like Media Center 2005. But more than anything else, I LOVE the IDEA of this product -- a networked device that helps unite the living room to the home office, giving you one place to put your pictures, videos, and music. This is a great generation one product. I can't wait to see what the next couple of generations bring.
That said, here are the things to be aware of when purchasing:
1) You need to know (or find someone to help you who knows) the basic fundamentals of home networking and Windows. This is not a completely plug and play installation.
2) You must have a very strong network connection between your Media Center 2005 device and your Media Center Extender. Ideally, you would have a wired connection (i.e., using old fashion cables). But I use the Wireless-G option and it works great now -- but I had to spend a good deal of time tuning the placement of my wireless router to ensure optimal connectivity between PC and Extender.
3) Be aware: TV content labeled as Copy Protected will not play on the Media Center Extender. For me, this means one very bad thing -- I can't watch 99% of the shows on HBO on the Extender. This is very disappointing for our family, because we enjoy HBO and actually use the Extender on our main TV in the house (with the Media Center 2005 PC in our home office). Pay TV channels are the only area we have had problems with this, though, so if you don't need to watch these channels on the TV where you are putting the extender, don't worry about it.
4) There are a few other things you can do on the Media Center PC that you can't do on the extender. Mainly for me--the extender can't play content on your Media Center PC DVD drive (I get around this by first burning the DVD to my hard-drive using a product called Pocket DVD -- a perfect solution to put my son's frequently watched kid movies in a place that's easily accessible).
Overall, if you already have Media Center 2005 -- buy this product--it's really cool to have a central hub for all this content with multiple TVs hanging off it.
If you don't already have Media Center 2005, and are considering it -- I recommend it. But be forewarned that it's still what I would call an "early adopter" solution. Be prepared for a few stumbles and bumps -- but it's sure to wow your techie buddies.

Linksys is a leader in networking for good reason. I first got this card because of my new cable internet connection. Even if you are a novice computer user with no experience in computer hardware you can install this card youself! The directions are very good with step by step instructions that are easy to read for anyone. Once you have it installed the driver instructions are also easy to read and offer them for Any operating system you can think of. If you are running windows xp (or thinking of upgrading) you don't even need to install the drivers yourself because they are built into windowsxp and it will install itself making instulation that much easier! They also have a nice webpage that further explains troubleshooting if you get into a problem for some reason! Don't go pay some store 50-100 bucks to install a network card you can do it yourself in 20 mintues for nothing and Linksys makes it possible at a very good price!
Also, after having the card installed for over a year it has never gave me any problems whatsoever! I wish i could say that about some other hardware that i have purchased!

NETGEAR XAV101 Powerline AV Ethernet Adapter Review

NETGEAR XAV101 Powerline AV Ethernet Adapter
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased 3 of these units (the 2 unit kit plus one additional) for my home media distribution. Originally I had planned to use only wireless, but found too many signal disruptions causing HD video to become choppy or drop completely. I have one connected to a Linksys DMA2100 extender, one to my DirecTV HD DVR and one to my Vista Media server. DirecTV VOD works flawlessly, as does the extender. This solution is more expensive than running CAT6, but it is so easy to set up and use that I didn't mind the extra cost. Another thing: one of these units is in my family room, and I was worried about the green lights being a distraction. There is a utility that comes with these devices that allows you to turn the indicators off if you desire. Overall, I've been very happy with these units.

Sling Media Slingbox PRO (SB200-100) Review

Sling Media Slingbox PRO (SB200-100)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The Slingbox Pro does an excellent job of streaming video from multiple sources (Tivo's, cable boxes, or satellite tuners, for example) to any internet-connected computer, anywhere in the world. If you have access to a fast internet connection, you'll be amazed at the quality of the picture and the sound.
Two issues:
1) The primary, defining feature of the PRO verison of the Slingbox is its ability to "sling" high-definition video across the internet to your laptop. It's unfortunate that the folks at Sling Media:
- saw fit to design the box to use a proprietary cable instead of the industry-standard HDMI cable that all HD component owners know and use, and
- failed to include their proprietary cable in the box with the Pro. When I buy a product for its PRO features, I shouldn't have to go back out and scavenge for a rare, $50.00 cable in order to use those features. This was a terrible oversight.
2) Be aware that you will not be able to use the Slingbox unless you:
- can plug it directly into your home network router, or
- purchase a $50-$90 wireless Ethernet "bridge," or
- purchase Slingbox's bizarre and expensive hardware solution for connecting the Slingbox to your router over your electrical wiring.
A PRO-level, premium product should be able to see and use a wireless home network connection, right out of the box; a trip back to the store to buy more hardware shouldn't be necessary.
The core product is great, and works better than advertised ... but this PRO package lacks what any pro would expect to find in the box. Be aware that, in addition to the Slingbox Pro, you'll need to buy:
- a home network router (if you don't already have one),
- a wireless G network bridge or the Slingbox networking product (if you don't have your router near your television), and
- a proprietary video cable (if you want to "sling" HD programming).

The first generation Slingbox was a big step forward for so-called "place shifting" technology, a device that allowed you to view incoming TV signals on any TV computer in your home, or on any Internet-connected PC around the world. Sling Media is now introducing the successors to this groundbreaking product. Now there are three Slingboxes to choose from, each with features that make it easier than ever to bring your TV and other media with you wherever you roam. Choose from the Slingbox Tuner, AV, and Pro models depending on your entertainment needs. Compare Slingbox models.
Slingbox Pro The Slingbox Pro ensures that you can watch all of your favorite home theater entertainment anywhere you go, with the ability to watch and control up to three standard definition and one high definition video (via component connection) devices. Using an Internet connected computer or compatible mobile phone (with purchase of SlingPlayer Mobile software), you can watch and control your home TV, DVR, basic cable, digital cable box, or satellite receiver anywhere around your home or around the globe. With a Slingbox Pro you will never be separated from your favorite TV shows, sports broadcasts, breaking news stories, digital video recordings, or video on demand.
The Slingbox Pro also includes the free Slingbox Finder service to locate a Slingbox from any network location, in or out of the home.
How it Works Slingbox Pro is a small device that connects to your cable box to redirect the TV signal to the computer of your choice--providing high quality video, no matter the distance, so long as there is a high-speed Internet connection. This technology also allows you to access and control your TV from anywhere--and your TV doesn't even have to be on.
SlingMedia's patent pending SlingStream technology delivers the smoothest and best video quality possible. SlingStream delivers up to a 400 percent video quality improvement over the original Slingbox. SlingStream is powered by a programmable engine that is capable of running the latest video compression algorithms. SlingStream dynamically adjusts to changes in network conditions, video content, and Internet bandwidth.
At Home, At Work, or on the Go At home, Now you can watch TV in whatever room in the house you choose. Say goodbye to the days of having to watch your child's favorite DVD over and over again. Now you can watch your soaps in the laundry room. You can watch your fix-it shows in the garage. Or you can watch your cooking shows in the kitchen. You'll never get stuck having to watch shows you don't want to now that you're in charge of what's on, when it's on, and where it's on.
Now that you can access your TV wherever you have your computer, the clock won't be the only thing worth watching at work. You can watch your news and business channels to stay updated. You can catch the big game while tending to business. Or, you can watch your favorite shows during your downtime. In any event, work will never just be business as usual.
With the SlingBox you can travel to another country and actually understand the programs. You can visit the in-laws and not get stuck watching The Weather Channel.
Ready for Vista SlingPlayer software is compatible with the Windows Vista operating system. Future Vista-specific enhancements are expected in early 2007.
What's in the Box Slingbox Pro, SlingPlayer CD-ROM, AC adapter (100-240V 50-60Hz), ethernet cable, stereo audio cable, RF/coax cable, composite AV cable, S-video cable, remote control IR cable, and quick start guide.

PROS : It doesn't hurt small furry animals.CONS: It wont do 802.11n , the software sucks, doesn't show up in the airport icon , needs pci software even to wo9rk in G mode which is the only mode it will work in. It can't find the 2.4ghz N network or the 5 ghz N , the support staff arrogant and abusive. Dont even bother writing them it's a waste of time.
With my old Aria Extreme G card it worked terrifically, it showed up in the airport icon and ran teriific, unfortunately this is a 180% Not only the Aria Extreme N hard to connect, it does not show up in the airport icon, it has to use a PCI Card Utility to find the network and speeds average no better than a $14 G card . When my 802.11n Airport Extreme base is set on any single N channel it can't find the base at all so I wrote Sonnet and this is what came back.
We would be more than happy to advise you if you could be so kind as to write us a civil note.

For those in wonder my note said "Help , it's not working " ! Nothing like hiring crazy people with emotional issues to take out on customers . How much more lucky can I be today now I've got this fake Sonnet N card ? I have to deal with a nut job Sheesh ! . Don't buy this card folks , the hassle in dealing isn't worth the baby sitting fee. Update: After a bunch of sleuthing I discovered the reason that the card is not recognized in Tiger, there is no support for N , not till the OSX 10.5.7 . If you run OSX Tiger forget it. Oh, and if you have other computers on your network you will lose access. Not worth it at all.

EnGenius EUB-362 EXT - Network adapter - Hi-Speed USB - 802.11b, 802.11g
Average Reviews:

Initially I've decided to install only the driver and not the software. It worked right away on Windows XP SP2 and found many different networks. The average
signal strength is at least 2 bars more than on my internal laptop antenna. And surfing speeds are really good, I suppose also because of the higher transmitting power.
Later, I've installed the driver on a new laptop that already had an internal wifi antenna running on Intel Proset wireless software. However using this software I could not select the external antenna.
Therefore I had to install the software supplied with the adapter, which is recommended by Engenius anyway.
The way I use it now is: both the original Intel and the Engenius software are running.
First, I scan with the internal laptop antenna if I can connect to a network. If this does not work, I connect the external Engenius antenna via a 2 meter usb extension cable, so that I can hang the adapter in the window and run the Engenius software to find a network.
So, If you are using the Windows feature to connect to wifi, you can select more than one adapter, if you are using any other software, such as Intel Proset, you are better of installing the Engenius software to run alongside it.
Bottom line: his adapter will give you the opportunity to be online in more different locations.

Hawking HWPS12UG Wireless G Print Server - 2 USB/1 Parallel Ports, 802.11g Review

Hawking HWPS12UG Wireless G Print Server - 2 USB/1 Parallel Ports, 802.11g
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The device supports a good range of network and printing protocols: TCP/IP, Appletalk, Netware, Unix LPR, Windows print client, Internet Printing Protocol (which means you can print to a URL from your network or even the Internet). I have XP and Win 98 clients on wireless-G network with Linksys transcievers on the PC's and a Linksys wireless gateway/router. So far, I can't complain about the device, but there are a few reasons I can only give it 3 stars.
The installation booklet omits some critical information most import of which is the fact that you *MUST* have a wired TCP/IP connection to the device to configure it. If you don't have wired TCP/IP, you cannot configure or use this device. The stupidity of requiring a wired network to configure a wireless network device should be apparent. Much better it would have been to run setup through a USB or serial port. I was able to configure the device with a TCP/IP crossover cable from the one PC I have with a TCP/IP interface.
The installation booklet is essentially trash. On the included CD is a fairly large pdf document which, if you care to read through it, gives a more complete (and correct) discription of the installation and requirements. However, it still ASSUMES you have a reasonable amount of familiarity with TCP/IP networking and routing requirements. It also assumes you know a few things about wireless networking AND your particular wireless network. Some things get some explanation; some things don't. If you don't have a pretty good working knowledge of these networking things, this might not be the device for you. I would say success at correctly setting things up will demand a fairly high computer geek factor.
One thing to remember: In order to reset the device back to factory defaults (so you can start over and try again), you must press and HOLD the reset button for about 5 seconds until the power light flashes rapidly. The docs don't tell you this.
The installation docs contain no help or trouble shooting info. None. Zip. Nada. Also note that the Hawking web site is completely barren of any of this info too. A morning email to the Hawking tech support received a very brief reply of limited usefulness that afternoon.
In summary: The device is certainly a capable printer server. The docs and technical support need to be much better. I am at a loss to explain why a wired network must be present to configure a device for a wireless network.

The Hawking, HWPS12UG, 2 USB + 1 Parallel port 10/100 Wireless Print Server, is a powerful and convenient tool to connect your USB and parallel printers to your existing wireless 802.11b or 802.11g network. Through its enhanced functionality, the HWPS12UG can support up to three printers at one time (2 USB + 1 Parallel). The Hawking HWPS12UG combined with the Internet Printing Protocol (IPP) lets you easily connect to any printer and print documents by specifying the print server's IP address. With IPP technology, printing over a WAN or the Internet becomes much easier. You can send a print job to a printer in another country just as easily as sending a print job to your home or office printer. IPP eliminates the need for fax communications between offices. Simply print an original document through the HWPS12UG's IPP capabilities and send it from one office to another. The print quality from IPP printing is equal to that of a document printed from your local office. With the HWPS12UG, your printers become a fully functional networked print station.

Linksys WIP320 Linksys Wireless-G Skype iPhone Review

Linksys WIP320 Linksys Wireless-G Skype iPhone
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The prices of Skype-certified phones or other VoIP phones are expensive. This is one of the lower-priced phone you can get your hands on.
The convenient feature about this stand-alone wireless Skype phone is that you don't have to be tied to your computer to make calls. In fact I use it as my house phone for outgoing calls and it works just fine. The sound quality is more than okay as expected from internet calls.
Set up is straightforward. No need to read the manual as the screen will guide you sign in, if you already have a Skype account, or sign up, if you are new.
If you are an existing user, it just carries over all the contacts to the phone. Give it time to update from the internet and your contacts will appear. No need to type all over again.
However, if you are a new user I strongly suggest signing up and entering or importing your contact from your computer. That way you have your contacts from your address book or email account ready to be imported. If not, it's easier typing from a full keyboard. Once updated, this will also carry over to the phone.
Pros:
1. Free up your computer resources and electricity by using a stand-alone Skype phone.
2. Good design in a light-weight package loaded with user-friendly controls. Normal and advanced features are readily accessible on the phone menu. Just read thru the display and navigation will be straight-forward.
3. Relatively cheap compared to other Skype-certified wireless phones.
Cons:
1. Battery life is horrible. A few hours of use and it will need charging. If mobile phones can last more than a day of normal use, this should be able to as well. Linksys will need to investigate and release a firmware update on this issue.
2. NO SPEAKERPHONE! Despite the iPhone having a loud speaker that announces it's own boot up, this phone surprisingly does not have a speakerphone. This is definitely a design flaw and needs a software update.
3. The time and date resets itself to 01-01-2006 and 00:00am whenever the phone is shut off. While all other settings are saved. That's plain stupid. Furthermore, you have to manually set the correct time. While all internet devices are able to connect to the...umm...internet and sync with any server for correct date and time. This phone - that depends on the internet for functionality - is not able to sync with any time server at all. Mwahahaha! Seriously, Linksys has got to do something about this feature. In fact I have to set my own Daylight Saving Time whenever it is in effect. This has got to be updated.
4. Relatively slow response time. A few milliseconds of lag when won't hurt. But it is there and regular users will notice it. And I don't know if this is due to the nature of internet calls, Skype structure or the device itself having a slow processor.
All in all it serves its purpose of making wireless internet calls without the dependency for a computer. But it is an apparent version 1 product that seriously needs firmware and software updating if it wants to be known as THE iPhone rather than be trumped in name by Apple's iPhone.
By the way, my household is all Mac and this phone connects flawlessly to my Apple Airport Extreme Base Station (b/g device, not the latest n model) without any wireless disconnection at all or interference from other wireless base station in my apartment building. I have been on calls for as long as 30 minutes and I have not encountered intermittent audio quality or drop signals. I am using WPA authentication and this phone was able to detect and join to the router without any problems.
So despite it's shortcoming, it's still a respectable phone and enables me to make free and cheap calls.
UPDATE:
Feb 23, 2007 - The phone has twice been returned and I just asked for a refund. I haven't patronized a Linksys product in a long time and I was hedging on the fact that any kinks on the phone and further customer feature request would be quickly incorporated into the phone. As it stands, the phone hasn't received any software revision AT ALL. The phone is still at hardware version 1.0 despite numerous flaws mentioned here and especially at Linksys' own customer feedback forum.
I have spoken to their customer and technical support with great disappointment. I was on hold for most of the time for issues they are aware of, but have no solution. In fact when I complained about the lack of speakerphone function despite pointing out that this has been explicitly mentioned on their website the solution was the easy fix - REMOVE ALL MENTION OF SPEAKERPHONE FUNCTION FOR THE PRODUCT. Good thing I saved the web pages mentioned about it so I could show the Tech what I'm talking about. She did see it herself in her own documentation. Then a few days later Linksys' position is "what speakerphone?" This is what ultimately turned me off. They were releasing a first generation product, but providing no future support and cheap-shot fixes to customers. If this was how the company is monkeying with the patrons, I don't want to even be their customer. So product has been returned.
UPDATE 2: MAY 26, 2007
Linksys has FINALLY issued a firmware upgrade as of May 24, 2007 which is version 1.1.0.16 (from the only existing previous version of 1.0.0.0). Among the long list of new feature, bug fixes and enhancements - A SPEAKERPHONE. After months of silence they only decided to provide their first ever firmware upgrade. This may come a little too late as lots of customers have jumped ship by now to other brands. Damage to phone reputation has already been done. Evidence is the drop in price.
I'm surprised Linksys/Cisco has allowed this to happen to them. Hopefully they have learned their lesson and will focus their attention back to the customer.

D-Link MediaLounge High-Definition Media Player (DSM-510) Review

D-Link MediaLounge High-Definition Media Player (DSM-510)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
First off, I'd like to say that I firmly believe that digital media players similar to this one are the future of digital home entertainment. A simple and inexpensive device like that allows you to stream digital media to your home theater from your laptop, desktop or a dedicated media server located anywhere in your house. This is a great idea. This technology is here to stay. It's just a question of maturity. And, sorry to say, D-Link DSM-510 is not quite there yet.
I truly liked its design simplicity. There are no frills, but all essentials are there - WiFi, Ethernet, HDMI, optical audio and USB port. Exactly what I needed, no more and no less, in a small and neatly done package with clean and straightforward user interface.
However, the device is palgued by fimware bugs that eventually made me take it back to the store where I bought it.
First, the most obvious and the most stupid one is the absence of the on/off indicator. The blue light on the front panel goes on once the power adapter is connected and remanis lit whether the device is turned on or off. So you have to turn your TV on to tell whether it's on or off.
Second, there's no on/off or reset button on the front panel. Well... there's no buttons whatsoever, period. And boy, will you miss that reset button now and then. The only way to turn it on or off is by using remote control.
The most annoying thing is, the device's video output goes completely dark for no apparent reason once in a while and won't come back even if you power cycle it using remote. The device appears to be alive (you can ping it), but video output remains black no matter what you do. The only way to remedy from this is to physically disconnect power supply (there's no reset or power button, remember?)
I upgraded to the latest firmware version (1.01), but to no avail. By the way, firmware upgrade is done via Internet and went very smoothly, although at some point you're left wondering if it's hung up or what? Just be patient and wait for a couple of minutes for it to finish.
I'm really surprised and disappointed that D-Link's QA have not caught this nasty "black screen" problem. Hopefully, it can be fixed with a firmware patch. But until then, the DSM-510 goes back to the store shelf.
And D-Link, take note. If you want to enter consumer market, you have to change your attitude. Consumers are less forgiving than computer geeks you sell your networking stuff to. They won't tolerate bugs that require reaching behind the box and pulling the power cord.

Iomega StorCenter ix2-200 - 2 TB Network Attached Storage 34481 (Black) Review

Iomega StorCenter ix2-200 - 2 TB Network Attached Storage 34481 (Black)

I have been waiting for this for a long time. This NAS works period!. It works with Apple Time machine. It works with Ubuntu 9.10 (SimpleBackup) and it works with windowsXP (Windows Backup Program).
I wanted a RAID1 NAS storage. RAID standard dictates how hard disks are used. In RAID1 both the hard discs contain the same data. So if one fries the other one will save your day till you replace the broken one with a new disk. I wanted Iomega to act as the backup repository for all my systems which include a macbook (Leopard), ubuntu Linux (9.10) and WindowsXP Pro.
Pros
----
+ For 200+ bucks this offers you RAID1. Which is lot better than over prized Apple Time capsule which has only one hard disk.
+ Works seamlessly with Apple Time machine software
+ Supports FTP Server, UPNP (for media streaming) and SMTP (to send you an emails about diagnostics errors etc)
+ Supports Good Security. Remember once you connect any device to network you should enable user accounts passwords etc.
+ Very Very simple configuration.
+ You can connect external USB storage devices and they are available to all users in your home network. Makes regular usb printers network printers how cool is that ?
+ Very reliable. So far I have transferred 100 Gigs of data over the network and not even once did the network connection drop.
+ Compact and easy to service (in case the hard disk fries).
Cons
None so far
Help Instructions
For Apple Users
Once you install the supplied software the provided TimeMachine folder on the drive is visible to your time machine software as a backup drive. Configuration just involves opening up your time machine preferences and pointing to the NAS timemachine folder. Done! its that simple. I have tried creating a backup and restoring from it and it worked seamlessly.
For Ubuntu
I used the macbook to configure the NAS. Open the admin page in your browser and go to Settings->NetworkServices and Enable NFS. Once you do this the drive will turn on SMB protocol automatically (something that linux and unix worlds love). Now you can either create an additional folder on the drive (like i did or use the existing Backup Folder). Once you decided which folder to use, click on the small "Configure" Spanner icon next to it. This would open up the configuration page. Give a proper name and click next. In this page the software would ask you if you want NFS enabled for the folder. Check the box and give a name. For instance UbuntuBackup. Click ok. Now start your ubuntu computer-> places->Network and the explorer would show you the UbuntuBackup. To let Simple backup store backups here open the System->Administration->SimpleBackup Config-> in destination folder check the second option (SSH or FTP) and enter the following smb://EnterUserName@IOMEGANASNAME/UbuntuBackup (note you have to use username and password only if you have enabled security as i did. Your are done. Do a test backup and restore
Windows
Map the NAS as a drive (assigning a drive letter) and make the backup program use the mapped drive as the destination

4965AGNMM1GN Wireless N Nic Review

4965AGNMM1GN Wireless N Nic
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I just purchased a wireless N router and I didn't want to risk opening up my laptop to put an internal card in. So I originally bought an expansion card, the problem with that was the reception was so bad I ended up using my internal card more than the expansion. I returned that card and decided I would go with the internal. Not only was it cheaper but it took no more than ten minutes to install in my Dell Inspiron. The card worked the second I turned my laptop on with no drivers to install (running XP Pro). Not only that the reception is better than my previous wireless card an Intel WM3945 ABG. I have no complaints about this card, it does what it should and does it well, I consistently getting over 100 mbs wirelessly. The main reason I gave this product a five is that for the price this this is the best option for people looking to upgrade to wireless N and its ease of use. Before you upgrade make sure to check your warranty and make sure that opening up your laptop wont void anything.

Brother HL-2070N Network Monochrome Laser Printer (Black) Review

Brother HL-2070N Network Monochrome Laser Printer (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This printer doesn't have the 'built-like-a-tank" feel or weight of my old Laserwriter IIg, but it's far quicker and less troublesome. If you want to do black-and-white printing on a budget, I highly recommend it. I use it to print book drafts and even the 8-point type in footnotes is sharp and clear. The driver installed quickly and worked without a hitch on my Mac mini and MacBook.
Installed to run over an Ethernet network, this printer has a rudimentary web page server that allows you to use your web browser to configure some of its features remotely, including the print resolution and a toner save mode. You can also see how many pages you've used on the toner and drum, so you have an idea when each needs replacing. The web page configuration information is buried in the Network User's Guide, so I'll post it here. (Voting this review helpful will keep in near the top and help others to see this posting.)
The web address is: http://brn-8c4310.local/printer/main.html
That'll give you the printer's home page. To change the configuration, you'll need this information:
The default account is: admin
And the default password is: access

Nyko Wireless Net Extender - Wireless bridge - Ethernet, HomeRF Review

Nyko Wireless Net Extender - Wireless bridge - Ethernet, HomeRF

I wanted to connect my Xbox to the internet. The problem however, was that it was in a different room than my PC, and I didn't have the money to start a wireless network. So, I was very excited to see this product come out! But it seemed to good to be true... There must be a catch, right? Wrong!
I got it, and am very pleased with it. All I did was plug it in, and then I had instant internet access. I've had no trouble at all so far. The speed may not be the fastest available, but it's fast enough for me. There's almost no lag in games, and downloads usually don't take too long either. This is truly a great piece of hardware, and I would easily recommend it to anyone who wants to connect a device with ethernet ports, without wires, and without spending $100's. I must applaud Nyko.

Ubiquiti Nanostation LOCO M2 Outdoor MIMO 2x2 802.11g/n Review

Ubiquiti Nanostation LOCO M2 Outdoor MIMO 2x2 802.11g/n

These little line of sight wifi stations are a great way to extend your network. I set up four of these, one as an access point and three as stations. All three stations have full signal at distances over 1/4 mile. I even have one of these stations set up 90 degrees to the side of my access point and it still receives great signal. Setup is easy, and the power over Ethernet ensures that you don't have any signal degradation due to long RF cables.
Highly recommended

Linksys SE2800 8-Port Gigabit Ethernet Switch Review

Linksys SE2800 8-Port Gigabit Ethernet Switch
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
It's a non managed switch, so not really much to say about set up.
Plug in your Ethernet cables, plug in the switch. So simple a non-techie significant other could do it.
I was using a four port switch but with the addition of a networked TV, blueray player, apple tv... i was running out of available ports.
I ordered this and received the usual super fast shipping from Amazon. Packaging was excellent.
From the time I unpacked the switch to the time i was done (including moving the old 4 port switch over to the home theater area and plugging in the apple tv to stop using wireless) it took 5 minutes.
Yes there are cheaper switches out there, but since this switch is in a semi-visible area I wanted something that looked a little nicer. Having it come from Cisco is just an added bonus. If you're looking for an 8 port switch, I would recommend the SE2800.
