I purchased this item after recently purchasing the Alfa, also offered by this seller on Amazon. (USB 500mW WiFI Adapter for Wardriving & Range Extension *Strongest on the Market* $51.99)
I liked the Alfa but this one had a bigger antenna and was cheaper and looked almost identical to my Alfa so I decided to give it a try. I'm not loving it. The setup was much more difficult and I couldn't get it working on my desktop running XP at all. The Alfa plugged right in and runs like a dream on it. Also, I actually get worse reception with the big antenna than I do with the small one.
All and all, I would recommend the Alfa over this one for ease of installation (installed on XP with no additional work and installed on Vista with driver from website pretty easily). Also the Alfa seems to more consistently maintain the signal and I got more bars with it then I am getting with this GSky.
Spend the extra few dollars and go with the Alfa. (By the way, I am a SAH mom, not a computer geek, so keep that in mind when I talk of ease of install and setup.)

i bought this to use in my newly upgraded desktop with windows vista. it CONTINUALLY drops the wireless signal (at least every hour) - when you click to connect to a network it does not find any networks. pulling it out and pushing it back in seems to recover the network almost every time, but this is really annoying to have to do repeatedly. it is not a signal strength issue in general, as another desktop in the same room and two laptops that frequent the room have no trouble getting good signals.

Replacing your WiFi antenna with our booster will significantly increase the range and strength of your WiFi signal. Our quality built panelantenna is a direct replacement for the antenna that comes standard with your router, access point, VOIP device, or PCI card. Our antenna is stronger then the less powerful booster antennas offered by major manufacturers. Installation is very easy - just twist off the factory antenna and twist on our Booster Antenna and you'll experience an instant jump in. PLEASE NOTE THAT THE INCREASE IN SIGNAL STRENGTH DEPENDS MOSTLY ON YOUR ROUTER OR ADAPTER THIS HELPS TO BUT IT CANNOT TRANSMIT OR RECEIVE POWER THAT YOUR MODEM OR ADAPTER DOES NOT HAVE!!! IT JUST GIVES MORE RANGE NOT STRONGER POWER!!Boost from standard 2dBi to 9dBi.

I have owned another WIFI model called the Alfa AWUS036H adapter for a while and wanted to get a second one for another computer, but then heard about this Gsky adapter which is also 1/2 watt. The maker Blue Proton says on their blog that it is (and I quote) "better than the Alfa AWUS036H", I should have asked them how they concluded that before I bought it, because it does not work nearly as well for me anyway. I have read it has the same chip as the Alfa, but at least the one I received does not, it is a different model of a Realtek chip (B version). The receive sensitivity at 54 mbps is -65 dbm vs -76 dbm of the Alfa (-76 is better). I also found out that the Gsky is only 15 dbm at 802.11g, which would be about 40 or 50 mW, so it isn't really high powered unless you are okay with a slow connection. There is a signal about a block away from me that is open, I get about 0-1 bars with my Buffalo PCMCIA card that is about 4 years old. With the Alfa I am able to get 3-4 bars. With the Gsky it is usually 1 bar, sometimes 2, so a slight improvement over my Buffalo card, but sometimes it is too weak to use the signal. With the Alfa I can use the signal all the time. For people trying to pick up weak signals I would suggest shelling out the extra cash for the Alfa or something else.

I'am using the SMC adapter for my wireless connection on my "Ubuntu 10.4 Linux OS system", it works great, no problems what so ever...It gives me a great signal, to my router one can not ask for anything better...I tried NetGear's wireless adapter, and finally after hours trying to get it to work, when they said it would not work on Linux huh!...But I returned it, then I purchased the SMC 802.11N, all that I can say is it just works, a very good wireless adapter... I would buy SMC products if needed in my next purchase...

I was inmpressed with the adapter till I connected it to my laptop. I installed the driver and the device worked right away. Then I wasn't impressed at all. The signal strength was very LOW and my connection was poor. I was only 20 feet away from my wireless router. I even tried moving the devices to gain teh signal strength but nothing worked. I turned off this device and turn on the internal laptop WIFI. The signal strenght was HIGH and my connection was excellent. I went back to the GSI adapter and the signal strenght did not improve. My connection never did get better than LOW. I am returning this adapter am may try a different one. Not impressed at all. Even updated the drivers from their website. Nothing work and my skill level is very advanced. My career is networking and I have an extensive background in RF as well.

ASUS WL-330N3G 6-in-1 Wireless-N Mobile Router Review

ASUS WL-330N3G 6-in-1 Wireless-N Mobile Router
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
You have to initially set it up with an ethernet cable, connecting to 192.168.1.1. You should not need to install any of the included software, but you will want to disable your wireless interface. If the software is easier for you, use it. Once in, you just setup the SSID, security and wireless password. It reboots, you unplug the ethernet and from that point onward you can do everything else over a Wifi connection. Those wireless settings you entered will persist through mode changes and through power loss. This means you can take this device with you and use it without a laptop or an ethernet connection. You can connect to it with a mobile phone or tablet over Wifi, change modes, set advanced settings, and even select a site and connect to it. The iPhone and iPad can both configure the router without problems using Safari. When coming back up after being turned off in hotspot mode, you can connect to it over wifi even if it cannot find the last site it was connected to. I read that you had to work around that problem on the WL-330GE, but you don't have to on this unit. You just connect and select another hotspot. Like the WL-330GE it can connect to sites with WPA, WPA2, etc, and unlike the GE it can connect to 802.11n only sites.
It does have to reboot with any mode change or almost any setting change. Afterwards you can connect again over Wifi. When you change to Hotspot mode you connect to it's web interface at 192.168.220.1 and in router mode at 192.168.1.1 (by default). You need to remember these two addresses and use the right one for the right mode or just try them both until you get in. I took points off of ease of use for these reasons. Granted other routers require a reboot for settings changes too.
It's range was better than expected. It reached about 50 feet, through walls, with only one bar lost. It's not as good as a full-size unit, however. It functions fine on a standard 500mA usb port, with no loss in range over the the distance I tested at (compared to using a 2A port). It gets a little warm to the touch, but nothing to worry about. The usb connector is a typical micro b.
While I have tested out router and hotspot modes, I have not tested them out with paid sites and captive portal pages yet. That will be for another time.
It came with a soft black pouch, a short usb cable (with a y to get more power), an a/c power supply, an ethernet cable and a software disc.

I live in a small house, my PC is in another room less than 40 feet from my router. I bought this adapter based on the reviews and it seemed to work pretty well at first. After the first week or two though, it's just been horrible. I keep the clunky required software open to keep an eye on things because the connection drops so often. Honestly, I will be surprised if I get through this review without losing the connection.
When it DOES stay connected, speeds are painfully slow. If I want to watch a 3 minute YouTube video, I need to pause the video immediately and wait a solid 5 minutes (without exaggeration) so that I'm able to watch it without frequent buffering.
It was cheap, so that was good, but I had a much better connection tethering my phone (using the same wireless router, not my phone's data connection).

Cisco WVC210 Wireless-G PTZ Internet Security Video Camera -w/2-Way Audio Review

Cisco WVC210 Wireless-G PTZ Internet Security Video Camera -w/2-Way Audio
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Highlights: reasonable value for the money - good hardware, better than WVC200, lousy software - having used it for a few months, I would buy another, but there's still lots of room for improvement. PTZ: only digital Zoom (not optical - so really, there's no Zoom, just Pan, Tilt).
Details: I purchased the camera in December, 2008. Prior to using the WVC210, I've used two WVC200s. The 210 is an improvement over the 200 - better color, better image in low light, two-way audio, and I haven't had to reboot the 210 (the 200s are prone to lockups, occasionally). I use the "Kiwi Syslog Daemon" with all the cameras. And, the 210 audit trail is much improved over the 200. One key logging feature that the 210 has, is the ability to audit who logged in/out (and when) - the 200 does not do this. If you think about infrastructure security, this is a plus for the 210 and a HUGE mark against the 200. Like the 200, the 210 does not do motion detection - they both look at overall light level changes in a defined region. Labeling the function as "motion detection" is false advertising. Two outdoor examples: (1) if you setup a screen region and turn up the sensitivity, changes in sunlight (caused by clouds coming and going) will trigger a false motion-detection event (2) after turning down the gain to eliminate false sunlight triggers, objects (person, dog, car) that appears small at a distance can pass through the region without detection. Both cameras use an ActiveX control to view/listen to video/audio. The problem is, most public internet computers block the install of ActiveX controls, so if you want to check on your camera(s) while on vacation (off site), you better have your laptop along. Additionally, neither the 200 nor 210 accommodate this known shortcoming - for example, both could easily have a firmware upgrade to allow the user to see a snapshot JPG of the current image (when the ActiveX interface is not available) - neither camera has this feature. As for the monitoring software bundled with the 210 and 200 products, here Cisco has done an awful job as it takes over the ownership of these products from Linksys. The "Video Monitoring System v1.0.0.0" bundled with the 210 is not at all backward compatible with the 200. Adding insult, the interface is user-hostile, not allowing you to size it or move it - it has to be in the upper left corner of the screen and it wastes a lot of screen real-estate. The "Monitor v1.0.0.18" bundled with the 200 has a smaller footprint and it allows you to size and move the interface. It is forward compatible to the 210, but video only (not audio). It also gives you much more configuration control at your fingertips including volume control and on-the-fly record / stop / playback. In a nutshell, the interface of the old software is much better than the new stuff. If you will have a mix of WVC200 and WVC210 cameras, and if you want to use the monitoring software to record surveillance video, you will have to use the software that comes with the WVC200. You can search for e-pinions by me for reviews of the WVC200 for more details about pros/cons of this family of ip cameras.

D-Link DHP-1320 Wireless N PowerLine Router Review

D-Link DHP-1320 Wireless N PowerLine Router
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is a new power-line combo with a wireless N router so I thought it would be great in my office and extendable throughout my home. No such luck for the second part (see my review of the wireless extender DHP-W306AV). As a N router is seems fine. The CD-set up was not helpful, very confusing, and for example, did not connect to my FIOS(Verizon) router although the account/password was correct, or give me a choice of FIOS as an internet source. So I just plugged it into my current set up as I expected it to go, and after a bit with D-link support was up and running (support was fine). Namely: several devices into one 8-port switch. This switch into the 1320 router via one cable. The uplink from the router into a spare port in my Verizon router/FIOS connection. So I have both the Verizon and the D-link wireless networks going. Not sure if I can unplug the Verizon one and go directly D-link to FIOS (probably), don't want to spend the weekend trying this out. I do think that setting up these networks is terribly wasteful of time and effort. Why should I have to fight with IP addresses? And now I have a power-line N router which only does the N-part.
The wireless signal seems strong enough locally, but not enough for the house, so I am going to try a repeater, since the power-line option did not take. I have the Hawking HWREN1 Hi-Gain Wireless-300N Range Extender on order.
Update: the Hawking arrived and was set-up in 10 mins to give a strong signal throughout the house. No problems so far. Clearly the way to go for my situation.

The hardware itself works great. However, the installation CD comes with Alfa's own utility, RaUI.exe. Using this utility can cause major problems with your system. Basically, once installed, the utility ties up your system resources. It can use up to 90% of your CPU time constantly. This causes the CPU to overheat and shut your system down (power off) without warning. This can result in lost data in other open applications as well as presenting a serious risk to your CPU overheating and getting fried, which could be an expensive repair.
Also, the CD which comes with it has some serious flaws. You can't exit the installation unless the CD is still in the CD drive you are installing it from. You can't even Ctrl-Alt_Del to access the System Manager and end the task unless the CD is still present.
Furthermore, the Auto-Run function of the installation CD has a fatal error. You can't Auto-Run the CD. It will come up with a Windows error if you try to setup using the screen which is presented from an Auto-Run. You can install the driver ok without problems, but you can't install the utility from the screen which gives you that option. You have to open the CD with explorer and click on the setup to run the setup without getting an error.
If you install the utility on the CD your PC will later crash due to the overheating of the CPU. This problem doesn't appear at first, but only after you restart your computer and the utility RaUI.exe is initiated as part of the start-up. At that point it takes over your system resources and causes the 80%+ overhead on your CPU.
My recommendation is that the hardware itself and it's drivers are very good, but the utility is dangerous. Just install the driver, but NOT the utility. Then use the Windows Wireless Network Wizard to install Windows' own utility. Once the drivers are installed, Window's own built in functions can use the hardware and provide all of it's functionality without the problems inherent in the RaUI.exe utility.
The RaUI.exe utility is more user friendly and easier to setup and use than the Windows' built in wizard, but the serious flaw in how it uses so much of your system resources isn't worth the convenience.
Again, the hardware itself, and it's drivers are very good. But the Alfa utility not only sucks, but poses a serious hazard to your system. Get someone who knows what they are doing to help you and install only the drivers from the provided CD but avoid the utility on the CD and use the Windows Wireless Setup Wizard instead to avoid serious problems which could lead to expensive repairs of your computer.

Cisco Wireless-N VPN Firewall - Router Review

Cisco Wireless-N VPN Firewall - Router
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Ok, after waiting for this to come back in stock for a few weeks, I finally got it. I've had Linksys, D-Link, and Netgear network hardware, and wasn't satisfied by them. Yes, I know Linksys is owned by Cisco, but let's face it, if you know networking, you know they AREN'T the same.
Now before I get flack for my title, the setup being easy is relative to your savvy. If you've never heard of VPN, don't know what QOS or SPI stand for and actually mean, this probably isn't the route to take. There are TONS of decent home user level routers that do what you want, and are probably a bit easier to determine what features you want to use or don't want to use. Now, for the rest, this is a decent buy.
Not that I'm a CCNA or above, but I know when I don't get what I want out of a router. I also know that I love to tinker with my tech toys, and this gives me the freedom to giggle like a fool while I fiddle with the features. All in all, thumbs up.
Pros:
* Price. Let's face it; the Cisco Small Business line is a smashing deal. Cisco gear at a decent price? That's not to say that Linksys or Netgear doesn't make their "Professional Series" gear with the same functionality, but I trust Cisco. At ~150 bucks, you can't beat it.
* All the nitty gritty features that everyone wants, but no one wants to setup via the CLI, can be done through the web setup interface. In fact, you have no choice (that being said, don't go nuts on this point until you see Cons).
* Logging. Yes, logging. Basic, but necessary. The routers I've known didn't have logs available.
* Status reports. View how your router's doing. Things going slowly and suspect an attack? You can check your router's logs and the reports to see if things indicate an attack. How many home users can say that?!
Cons:
* No command line option. At least not that I've read about or seen. Correct me if I'm wrong. I'm not sure how viable this is for a business as this is the case.
* Setup can be a bit touchy, though overall it isn't bad. The detecting router portion of it was a bit flaky, but again, not something that was a deal breaker.
Conclusion:
This is a power users router, or an extremely small business router that doesn't have a network administrator/NOC. Not something I'd implement if you have those things and if you need completely customized configurations. It just won't have all the flexibility or power of a higher scale solution.
I'll update this after I use the router more, but thus far, it's neat. We'll see if the Cisco quality came along with the branding on the small business series.

Belkin Wireless N+ 802.11n USB Adapter (Black) Review

Belkin Wireless N+ 802.11n USB Adapter (Black)
Average Reviews:

I purchased this product in the hopes of using it for internet access to a desktop located in another section of my home than that of my router. The issues I have with the product are these: 1) connectivity was worse than that of netbooks/laptops in the same location, 2) no Windows 7 driver was supplied - had to download to a CD on the internet on another PC and then move to the remote PC - Catch 22, as I cound not get the driver w/o internet connectivity, and I cound not get the connectivity without the driver. If you intend this for a site with strong network signal - and do not need the Windows 7 driver, it would work in a satisfactory fashion - but not any better.

Cisco-Valet Connector Review

Cisco-Valet Connector
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
My goal was to connect my new desktop (running Windows 7) to my existing wireless network.
What I liked:
1. It worked - not to set the bar too low, but this was the second adapter I tried. So I was elated that this actually worked.
2. Ease of setup - no extra discs, just plug it into a USB port and the necessary drivers (and the actual Win7 drivers, which it seems most adapters on the market do not have pre-packaged) are right in the adapter itself. Though this was not perfect - see below.
3. The design is attractive and convenient with a built-in stand.
4. Speed seems good - no issues so far.
What I did not like - the setup software that comes with the device wants to be the controller for your network. After downloading the drivers it did not want the password for my network, but rather the Hexidecimal password. After shutting that part of the installer down I just used the wireless network function within Windows itself to locate and join my existing network. A minor issue at best.
My needs are simple, so I cannot say if this will be good for more complex situations/ needs, but it works and I'm happy.
