(More customer reviews)I bought this kit to send HD video from my computer to my TV media device. It has adequate bandwidth and worked out of the box, but I do not get a strong signal from the main floor to the basement of my house, a distance of about 25 feet. There are a couple of walls as well as the floor, and the basement ceiling has metal duct work and pipes above the plasterboard, so I am probably lucky to penetrate all that. I used a laptop to indicate wireless signal strength, and spent a couple of hours orienting each device for the best signal. Now I get a level that varies from 50% to 70%, and that works reliably for HD at 720p. I have not been able to send 1080i over the link without momentary stops and starts in the audio and video; however the link never breaks connection and never needs resetting. It seems to just limit the bandwidth as the signal strength goes lower.
I bought a third WNHDE 111 to connect to another computer, and than link has never been interrupted since I installed it over a month ago. It has always worked well. I had previously used a Linksys G router that was interrupted once or twice a day, and it had to be reinstated manually using the "repair" function in the Windows wireless software. It was my wife's computer in the kitchen, so I had to fix it!
I still have the wireless G system up, and it works well around the house with a third computer, a laptop, but it never gave a reliable signal for my wife's computer in the kitchen; and it would not carry the HD video for the TV. I also use that old G router to connect the ethernet from my main computer to the WNHDE 111.
I recommend this device if you don't have too many walls and floors to penetrate. I am a retired electronics engineer, and I assure everyone that the higher the frequency, the poorer the penetration, but the more bandwidth and the more freedom from interference.
Update: After 7 months, I have better results. With some tweaking of the settings (set the Channel Width to 20 MHz, turn off the "Broadcast SSID", and lower Beacon Period to 50 msec) I can now stream 25 Mbps HD video through all the walls. I think the main problem was that the auto 20/40 Channel Width was trying to run at 40 and was not successful, sometimes switching between 20 and 40. When I reduced the channel width, I got an increase in signal strength. I can now stream 1080i HD for hours without any problem.

Background:
I honestly hated Netgear. The nightmares I had with my old setup were terrible. I constantly had to reboot the router; the bridge required me to reconnect wireless devices in a certain order every time; my fiance's Apple never stayed connected long; bittorrent, VPN and video streaming knocked the router out the few times it was working; and the customer service is just horrible. I swore I'd never buy another Netgear product, but I finally had to buy something that would at least work for my fiance. I waited a few months for 802.11n to mature a bit, and was going to get the DLINK DIR-655. Recently it's had horrible firmware issues though and the other brands had low reviews. Then along came the WNDR3700.
The reviews were great so I picked it up and this bridge. I fully expected it to work as badly as my previous Netgear products, but I felt I had to give it a shot.
Conclusion:
I've had this product connected to my WNDR3700 for two days now and it works flawlessly. I have had many wireless setups and this is the best I've ever seen. I've seen people complain that it's on the 5Ghz frequency only, but it works great. All of my other systems are wired or on the 2.4Ghz frequency so I have very little overlap. Of course the WNDR3700 is dual-band so that may not be the same for everyone. I will update this if anything changes but for now I'm extremely happy. It could work at half the speed it does and I would still be happy to have something that just works for once.
Update:
Everyone in my home has problems with the iphone and this router. We constantly get disconnected. It's a known issue on their forums. There is a recent update that helps a lot but almost everyday I still lose my connection and have to re-enter my password. Otherwise this router is still working amazingly. I've only had to reset it one time.
Update:
The last update pretty much fixed the iphone issues. I rarely have to reconnect my phone anymore. If you plan on using the USB storage part of the device though I'd recommend reading the Netgear forums. Some people have had some issues with this.

(More customer reviews)I was unhappy with by Linksys adapter, I just purchase a extended warrenty on the adapter and I call tech support. They wouldn't help me; stating my router is out of warrenty. I decided to purchase all D-link products; Dir-825 router with the D-Link DWA-160 Xtreme N Duo Dual Band. Tech support was easy to reach and the tech directed me to the manual setting of the router, once there I had a idea from my research what to do and mention it to him. We followed the direction I got from [...] to the letter. I was only getting 130 Mbps with my adapter. I'm using Rev. A from Amazon.com with XP Professional. The only thing I did differently from the instruction I'm going to provide was to rename my network name by putting a "1" on the previous name so I would be sure to connected too the changed network. I'm running a total of three computer at the same time on the network and getting a very strong signal; the wireless connections are on the second floor of my house. You also would be safe to retype your password while in your manual setup. The instructions are as follows:

To have your Draft N wireless network connect at 300Mbps as it should, ensure that the following requirements are met.1) The router and adapter are both D-Link 802.11N products and are using the latest firmeware/drivers. Ensure that the 802.11 Mode of the router has a 802.11N mode selected. Also if you have issues with mixed mode, try locking the 802.11Mode to either 802.11N Only or 802.11G/N.
2) If you are using encryption the router must be configured to use AES cipher. In some firmware versions/models, the only way to get the AES cipher is to run WPA2. If you can not select the Cipher, selecting WPA2 only will force this cipher type.
3) The channel width needs to be set to 20/40Auto, if it is not, the adapter will report a connection speed of 130Mbps. This is a feature that was added for compatibility with Intel 802.11N adapters, as they only operate on a channel width of 20.
D-Link reccomends that you use the D-Link Wireless utility, however the Windows Zero Config will also work.
Assuming you have met all of these conditions, you should see a 300Mbps connection speed with either the D-Link Utility or WZC.
Note: Not all Intel adapters are the same as D-Link's N line. Some Intel adapters do not support the broader 40 Channel Width option. This (by design) limits their connection speed to 130. Check the specifications of your Intel adapter to ensure that it is capable of bonding on the 40Mhz range to achieve the full 300Mbps.

(More customer reviews)This router does exactly what it advertises. Concurrent dual-band w/ N speeds and all the features described above (I won't repeat them here). Setup was a breeze, though I didn't use the wizard and you probably don't need to either as it's all fairly intuitive. Set up the 2.4GHz network with the same SSID/auth as my previous router and all our devices worked seamlessly (3 laptops, 1 desktop, 2 Wiis), and all devices that could see the 5GHz band connected easily with WPA2 enabled.
The only feature that I wish was more robust is the QoS prioritization. Under a prioritization model the firmware only allows a setting of High/Low priority, or 2 levels, rather than the customary 4. Also, you can only add three custom QoS traffic types under this setting and if you game online in addition to VoIP and download torrent traffic heavily then you've already used those 3 slots, with no options for more. This being said, it does allow you to setup QoS with bandwidth allocation settings and that seemingly allows for as many settings you might want. However, if you're looking for an easy way to setup QoS for multiple custom traffic types (based on port) then this likely isn't the router for you.
That being said, speeds are still very good. I use torrents on a private tracker and easily get 1.5MB/s down wired, similar to my previous router. The difference here is that it handles the traffic based on my QoS settings without affecting my other connections, so I can easily play games online with torrent traffic in the background and don't notice lag as before.
Wireless speeds are also solid. Depending on positioning and walls the 5GHz signal easily gets everywhere in the apartment (1000 sq ft), and average connection speed is somewhere around 230 Mbps when not in the same room. This is with both internal WiFi cards on ThinkPad T400 and the TRENDnet 300 Mbps Dual Band Wireless N USB Adapter TEW-664UB (Version v1.0R) which I also purchased from Amazon. 2.4GHz network works as before, which for me is pretty shoddy since I live downtown and there's serious channel congestion here. That was my primary motivation for getting a 5GHz router in the first place and it's done the job admirably. I'm sure, however, that for most people the 2.4GHz band will be just fine.
Overall a great purchase especially for the price at the time. Was 30 bucks less than the nearest competitor online (newegg) and shipping was FAST with Prime! I don't regret the purchase and will by TRENDnet again in the future.

I wanted, well, everything...

* at least 4 gigabit Ethernet ports
* dual-band
* ability to connect an external drive as a simple NAS
* a 2-yr warranty would be nice
Costco had these on sale for $89.99. I couldn't say 'no'.
Setup was a breeze. The Belkin Router Monitor app sits in the System Tray and makes configuration easy. Most configuration parameters have help files that can be called up by clicking on the parameter's title and help files are quite good.
Performance is very good. Gigabit Ethernet ports are fast (as they should be). Wireless is predictable (so far) and reaches 150-ft (54Mb). Configuring remote devices is easy.
Only thing is, when I connected my 1TB WD MyBook drive, the router would not recognize it. I finally called tech support and learned that the router ONLY supports SELF-POWERED portable USB drives or thumb drives. I tested this with a 320GB Seagate FreeAgent Go drive, which I had on hand, and the router detected it instantly and network access was very quick. I'm glad I didn't buy an externally powered drive.

Connection:
This wireless adapter that Linksys made is the best adapter out there IMO. I was doubtful at first, I am used to internal pci card wireless adapters, not usb dongle adapters. After setting up the adapter with its drivers from the CD. I was up and running. Bittorrent speeds are around 1.3 MB /sec (yes Megabyte), which is the full download speed of my connection. It does, both spectrums to connect to the router at 300 Mb from the other side of the house. Even my laptop cant connect at that speed that far away. If your having issues make sure your router is set up for dual 20 MHz + 40 MHz, for optimal configuration with all wireless N devices.
Setup:
Setup was a breeze, took about 10 minutes. I didn't run the linksys setup utility, I told the add hardware wizard in XP to search the CD for drivers, it found one and installed with no hassle. If your using an older version of XP SP1, SP2 you may have to install the utility in order to be able to communicate with your router. Earlier versions don't have WPA2 listed as an authentication type.
Design/Appearance:
The adapter is sleek, cool black, and comes with an usb dongle do you can keep it standing up on the desk. It has a single blue activity led that flashes a bit, but isn't annoying.
Price:
Well for a refurbished product, the price is very reasonable and attractive. Linksys sells these new for much more, which is not worth it because the quality of this refurbished product is amazing.
Verdict:
If you are looking for a good laptop or desktop wireless adapter, you have to try this one, you will be stunned into loving it.
