These power supplies, for the 2wire modem 1800, do die. If they begin failing to deliver steady, you can have the modem lose connection, then retry to get power, then re-gain power (steady green light on top), and seem back in business, but go 'out' again, just to re-cycle, when something requires the modem to do work - such as trying to get broadband connection., or someone else hopping in on wireless.
This power supply will work. As will others - if you don't know how to substitute one 6 volt power supply for another, you might need to ask Lance Armstrong and his friends over at Radio Shack. If you use something different, you MUST have the polarity correct, or you will likely burn and kill your modem.
If you don't know what that means, then you better ask someone who does. Because it is just as easy to find a substitute power supply with the polarity the opposite way you need as it is to find one with poliarity the way you need it. --The connectors look the same, but power supplies will vary in which has "positive" on inside of that little dealio (in other words, you cannot figure out if it is the right polarity just by figuring out if the connector fits).

Power Supply for 2Wire 1000HG 1000HW 5V 2.0A 100-240V Review

I haven't purchased this item, but I own a 2wire 1000HG gateway and had to replace my original 6V power supply. I tried 2 units with the same specs (5V, ~2A) as the one advertised here that I borrowed from some USB hubs but they didn't work, however a 6V 2.5A rated transformer does the job. Now I'm looking for a switch mode supply to replace the big transformer, but I'm skeptical about using anything rated less than 6V.
Also the correct plug size is 5.5mm OD/2.5mm ID, not 7mm/4mm as listed.

I just ordered a power supply directly from ATT for just $10 with free 2 day shipping so am I missing something? Did everyone here first go directly to the manufacture? Just wondering.

I'm looking for this adapter for a while and finally get it from here.
Delivery is fast and accurate.
Well you can get the same one from AT&T online store for $10 + shipping, and the total price is higher than here.
