I purchased this product to extend my antenna to the roof for better reception. I used to have my bosster outside with the antenna and I wanted to have the the booster protected from the heat. My booster worked fine outside and the USB cable worked fine. I waisted my on this cable. The cable was useless after 5 days of use. I don't know if it was the heat of 120F outside or not but a cable should last more than 5 days. I'm going to ask for my money back. Ripp off!

To solve the mystery of how you can get gain out of what might appear to be a omni-directional whip: This is a collinear antenna which has coils built into it so that it acts like several vertical antennas are stacked on top of one another, each creating more gain as the radiation pattern is squashed down into the shape of a toroid or doughnut so that little power is received or transmitted either directly above or below the antenna and instead concentrated in a band around the center. If the Wi-Fi antenna you want to receive from is elevated above you then you would want this kind of a antenna to be swiveled in such a manner as to put the whip at a 90 degree orientation to the remote station to allow signal reception or transmission off of the sides of the whip where the power is greatest.
Due to the way the receive and transmit pattern is in the shape of a toroid or doughnut this type of antenna can give good gain while at the same time being omni-directional, except above and below the antenna where you don't need to waste the power anyway. If you want a antenna which has much higher gain look for a more directional antenna such as the flat panel antennas, Yagi or a parabolic reflector type of antenna which depending upon the size, can have 20 dB (or more) of gain which is a factor of 100 making a 100 milliwatt or 1/10 of a watt signal seem as powerful as a 10 watt signal, or a 1 watt signal as powerful as 100 watts. If you buy a flat panel Wi-Fi antenna and get one rated for 20 dBi of gain the half power beam width for both receive and transmit will be about 20 degrees. With a 20 dBi gain flat panel directional antenna, if you point it 10 degrees to the left or right from where it should be pointed for maximum signal you will have the equivalent of 17 dB of gain but that apparent gain will quickly drop off the further away the antenna is pointed from the proper direction. Note: It is a coincidence that a 20 dBi gain antenna has a 20 degree wide half power beamwidth, normally gain and half power beamwidth do not correlate to the same numbers except in the case of a 20 dBi gain antenna.
If you want to receive or transmit to two different locations at the same time but want each to have the best signal possible using a single high gain flat panel antenna, you can cut the difference between them sacrificing some of the gain to each one and point the antenna to an area in the middle. As long as the two stations are close enough together to be within a healthy portion of the antennas area of gain this should work out fine. Obviously, you wouldn't expect to be able to use that antenna for two different locations if one was behind you and the other in front but if both are within 30 degrees from you and not too far away a 20 dBi gain antenna could be used by cutting the difference between them. If they are too far separated in azimuth direction from you use a high gain collinear antenna with more power on each end, or perhaps using a lower gain antenna which has a much wider beamwidth or separate antennas for each radio shot. You can also use a splitter designed for 2.4 GHz and combine the receive and transmit from two separate antennas together into one feedline going back to your equipment, if necessary, but there will be a 3+ dB penalty or loss of signal level when doing so but to me this seems like the best solution if you need all the gain you can get from a flat panel or highly directional antenna to each station when using a common or single Wi-Fi transmitter and receiver such as a LinkSys or other wireless router.
Here is a good rule of thumb for line of sight radio shots without buildings or other terrain in between, every time you half the distance you increase the received power from a remote location by six dB, or if you double the distance you lose six more dB of signal level. In areas where there are trees and buildings or hills between each location this rule does not apply as the signal losses can be very great for short distances.

The pigtail is 12" long. It's just that only 6" extends outside of the unit. The other 6" runs inside the housing before connecting to the antenna proper. The pigtail connector is an N-female type. If you want to to connect this to an SMA wireless card as I did then you will need an RP-SMA Male to N Male connector. I got mine from JEFA Tech. If you're not sure what you need just call them. They are very fair on the shipping. Your combined shipping and product cost will be less than others if you do the calculations.
This is an outdoor unit but I'm using mine indoors with a six foot cable, also from JEFA. Somewhat larger than a cantenna (which I have used the regular and the super) this YAGI pulls in way more signal for about the same price. If you mount the antenna outdoors remember to run a ground!

A directional 24dbi Antenna...Signal Quality works great! You will be surprised with the additional number of wifi networks people have in your neighbourhood compared to using a lower than 10 dbi Wifi antenna. The Range of this one is excellent compared to other manufactures Wifi antenna's I purchased in the past which was a big disappointment.
This wifi antenna is very stable and well tuned and never have I been disconnected from the wireless reception yet using my Linksys router.
AIR802 does have some excellent Wifi antennas with many products very good quality.
I would recommend this antenna to anyone.Its best to mount it outside the building using 1 1/2" ABS black plastic drain pipe (about 3 ft long) with two sturdy clamps fastened and attached to the building.
Inside the attic it also works if you place it on some catwalk boards but you will loose a little strength of the antenna since your going thru plywood and roofing material.
If you need connectors for your cable you can find them on their website.
I would highly recommend this product to anyone who needs a good quality stable Wifi signal.

The bottom line:
1. Via [...]: My average download speed is 20Mb/s and my average upload speed is 2.6Mb/s, with boosts up to 30Mb/s down. In other words, I always am receiving the full Dl and Ul speeds that I am paying for through Comcast.
2. Via [...]: At 200mi I have never had a test with any packet loss, never had a ping over 20ms and never had jitter over 2ms. Though this is indicative of the ISP quality, my router and network adapter serve basically as my "last mile", so it is evident that they do not serve as a weak link.
3. My transmission speed is 65Mbs and my receive speed is 120Mbs, with a signal strength typically around 95% or above. The lowest signal strength I have seen is 80%, with no performance degradation.
4. I am receiving my WiFi through two walls, using the product reviewed, an XyZel X550N router, and a Xyzel NWD-271N wireless USB adapter. I can set up transmission and reception rates up to 300Mbs, but it is pointless for me at the moment.
5. I feel comfortable that I can receive a consistent, full quality signal from anywhere in my house, including the farthest room away, through 5 to 6 walls.

I added this to my D-Link 626 g/b router. The router is in the basement of our wood framed home with wide duct work which interferes with transmission to computers on the first and second floors above. A maximum straight line distance of about 20 feet. The signal strength, measured by my computer on the second floor, improved from about 50% to about 75%. The strength improved to 100% when I changed from a PCI cardbus wifi adapter in the computer to a USB connected adapter with a cable that allowed me to move the adapter around to get the best reception. In summary, performance of the antenna is not 5 star, but it was well worth the $14 I paid with shipping.

I purchised this item to hook up to an external wifi adaptor for my laptop, so that I would have more range than the antenna that came with it. Even after hooking it up outside, I got less range than the antenna that came with the adaptor. For a few extra cents, you can get an antenna that comes with a 9 dBi antenna, and is interchangeable, which this one is not!

Granted I didn't use the flimsy suction cups but drilled and attached this directly to a fence post. This, as well as a low-loss cable I had to buy from another site (note to all, Amazon does NOT sell a wire that will go from the back of a standard WiFi router, aka LinkSys, Netgear, et. al.), got the WiFi signal out of the house to a fencepost where I now am shooting 90% signal strength well over 100 yards where before I had 0%. In fact it's shooting that signal through a giant old house between my house and the structure I'm sending the signal to. It's fairly incredible for such a simple set up. The signal even is stronger in the house in general as an added bonus. If you're looking to shoot your WiFi signal over 100 yards to another building with this, and a third-party male to female low-loss wire, you'll be all set and in business.

Shipping was super fast and it was boxed and packed well. So far the reception is really good and a BIG improvement over the airport. Construction looks good as well. I only gave this 4 stars for one reason. The thing that got 4 stars was the software came on a mini-disc and since I am using a Macbook I had to find a desktop and find the file, email it to myself and continue with the install. They do have software on their site but it looks like the disk was a newer version. Once that was done it linked right up and gave me a definite signal improvement. I am in a remote area and I am going to do some more signal testing but so far I am happy with it.The tripod legs extend which is not really apparent when you look at them. They need to be extended all the way for stability. I got to test it last night at a site I have been to before with just a USB dongle. Before I could only receive a signal with about 10% strength. When I put this antenna on it got 98%! That was to a wifi hotspot about 1/3 of a mile away.Inside my office building my Macbook would only show about 75% signal to a router about 20ft away as it goes through several walls. With the TurboTenna I get 100% signal no matter which way it is pointed. All in all I think it is great so far and I can't wait to test it more. I think in time this will actually pay for itself by allowing me to connect to free hotspots instead of paying for wifi,

The harbor where I keep my boat has free WiFi, but I have a difficult time getting a good signal from inside the cabin using the built-in antenna on my laptop. This solved the problem. Between being able to have an antenna higher up and the 9dBi gain I was able to receive a strong fast signal. Additionally, since its omnidirectional it continued to work well as the boat swung around on its mooring. Since I haven't found a good place to permanently mount it, I just stuck it to the outside of the cabin with some electrical tape and take it down when I'm done. It'd be nice if it came with some additional mounting options, but for its price I really can't complain.
Installation was simple. The included installation CD supports Linux, Mac, and Windows. I'm running Win7x64 and had no problem with installation, just plug in the antenna and run the setup program. The included software allows you to view all the available hot spots including signal strength, WiFi version (b,g,n), and easily connect to the one you want. If you prefer you can use Window's built in network connection just as easily.
Since it has its own WiFi adapter built-in, don't forget to turn off the adapter built into your laptop before using this.

Ok so i just tryed this out for like a week or so because i thought it would be better than the orginal alfa antenna that came with it.
I gusse i thought wrong... the orginal antenna that i had did better then this. But if its all you have it's pretty good.
So i say buy the item and try it out its cheap and good.

i received slim flimsy a wire antenna and not the antenna displayed in the product image, the detachable antenna itself that i got does not have the rpsma connector, this was the main reason i purchased the product. So needless to say im very dissatisfied with my purchase.
