(More customer reviews)I've used a D-link directional antenna for a couple of years, for which I paid $16. Recently, I needed a second antenna and bought this one which is cheaper, and claims a slightly better gain (+10dB). I found that:
- the reception was not as good as the D-link
- the cable is shorter
- no adapter is included for TNC connector
Clearly, it was a poor choice, trying to save a few bucks.

D-Link DWL-G120 Wireless USB Adapter, 802.11g, 54Mbps Review

(More customer reviews)I purchased 2 D-Link DWL-G120 802.11g adapters from Amazon through Office Depot to use on two Tivo DVR's. I wanted the extra speed of these adapters, which were the only 802.11g adapters recommended by Tivo. I bought them specifically to make use of the Tivo To Go features that allows you to watch a show on one Tivo that was recorded on another one via the network and to transfer recordings from a Tivo to my PC. Neither feature worked with these adapters. If you read the Tivo website carefully, you will see they recommend D-Link DWL-G120 version B2. The Amazon website did not indicate what version was being sold. I was shipped the B1 version and they keep losing the connection whenever I try to transfer recordings from one Tivo to the other or to my PC. A Tivo person on their community forum verified that a different chipset is on the B2 and that the B1 causes hangups and freezes like what I experienced.
By the way, I don't think the 802.11g makes the transfers any faster than 802.11b. Even when the transfers were working before freezing, the speed was about the same or slower than real time. I've read technical reviews on other adapters and they all say the same thing. Of course, Tivo doesn't mention this in all their hype about Tivo to Go.
I emailed Office Depot to see if I could get a refund or exchange them for the proper version. So far, no reply from Office Depot. To be fair, the first adapter was defective, but Office Depot shipped me a replacement within 3 business days after I phoned them, not that it mattered as it turned out. I'll give them a great review as a merchant if they take back the two I still have.
My advice, pay the extra cost and buy adapters direct from Tivo. Then you only have one vendor to deal with if problems develop. If I ever get the B2 version and they work well, I'll post a new review, but for now I'm giving these adapters the lowest rating possible - 1 star.

(More customer reviews)I received my adapter before the wireless router (also EnGenius) and setup an ad hoc connection. Windows 7 found the adapter right after I connected it to a usb port. It is a small but stylish adapter. I like everything about it. After that it was just a matter of using Windows 7 Network and Sharing Center to setup the connection.
Of course, once the router arrived, it was a snap to setup the network, since Windows 7 had no problems finding the adapter and router. To setup a network using a router, plug in the wireless adapter and then follow the instructions for setting up the router. Easy installation and use, and low price makes each EnGenius product an excellent value.

(More customer reviews)I purchased this product solely because of its compatibility with Mac OS X, as my internal wireless card is "unpredictable" at best. However, I couldn't figure out which driver to use to install the Panda USB because the Mini CD that ships with the package is not readable by the internal CD/DVD drive found in my MacBookPro -- the drive doesn't have a retractable tray to which the mini disk can be coupled. Thus began my aggravations with the purchase of this adapter. The website for this product at [...] has the drivers for Mac, Linux, and Windows but no instructions to follow for installation. That's helpful. I was glad to download the driver over a 15k link if I could only tell what driver number applies to my wireless device. There is not a mention of the manufacturers model number anywhere on the adapter, on the packaging, or in the brief brochure that is included in the retail box. Once I am able to figure out that this card is RT3070 and download the software, the device remains unusable. The Ralink wireless manager software reports that the card is connected to my network, yet my ISR/access point does not show an association, and consequently an IP address isn't assigned to the device. However, there is no convincing the proprietary wi-fi manager that the adapter isn't actually associated. Lovely. Thinking that I may be able to use it on the Linux OS that dual boots on my laptop, I load up Fedora 11 and download the Linux driver from the RaLink website. Too bad that I cannot figure out how to get the installation going now that I have the driver. I don't know if it is not compatible with my distro or what. And where are the customers supposed to get the supposed one year technical support? The link from the manufacturers website immediately prompts the end user for username and password credentials without providing a link for one to use to create an account. I give up -- its a loss and a total waste of money. Had I known about the shoddy support and lack of documentation I would not have taken a chance on this product, let alone its inability to function in the Mac OS X environment. Caveat Emptor.

Before I got these antenna, the media center extender would drop its network connection frequently enough to be quite annoying. (More customer reviews)The EnGenius EUB9706 installed easily on Windows 7. In operation, though, it was a weakling. It showed two bars of signal strength and connection speed of 36 mbps on an 11g network. My netbook one room farther away showed four bars and 54 mbps. It was up to a third faster on downloads. I rated the EnGenius at three stars.
A few days later, I moved the adapter from the computer to a 6-port usb hub. Here, it provides 5-bar signal strength, 54 mbps connection speed and much faster downloads. I read that a hub's connecting wire can act as an antenna. The adapter now gives me 5-star performance. I'll average the rating out at 4 stars.
EnGenius tech support was the best. The tech guy took me through the resolution of a driver conflict (my fault), and he stayed on the line until service was restored. He did great.

(More customer reviews)Bought this because of the "N" speed and sitting near my router it is nearly as fast as my wired connection (speakeasy.net). However, where I am using it upstairs, it is useless. I believe the reason is that it is so small that it has no antenna length no matter how many times they wrap it around the unit internally. My larger "G" USB unit works fine (I was hoping for a speed increase)but this one just can't cut it. Gave it 3 stars anyway because if you are close to the source, then it's fine. Also, software installed flawlessly and worked well with XP and Windows 7.
