The "Buffalo Technology WHR-HP-G54 Wireless-G
MIMO Performace Router and Access Point" and "Buffalo AirStation WHR-G54S" sold by Amazon
includes the "Buffalo Technology 4bBi Detachable High Gain Omni Directional Antenna-WLE-AT-NDRHB (Black)"
as its attena, not the Older European Version: 2.0 dBi Rubber Duck Antenna that is shown in some
of the pictures.
So if you order the WHR-HP-G54 or the Buffalo AirStation WHR-G54S from Amazon,
do NOT bother to order the "optional" High Gain ... WLE-AT-NDRHB attena because it is the exact
same attena (the WHR-G54S one is white instead of black but I tried the black one and the performace
was exactly the same).

AIRLINK MIMO RX 802.11G ROUTER UP TO 2500 FEET Review

AIRLINK MIMO RX 802.11G ROUTER UP TO 2500 FEET
Average Reviews:

I went through some minor trial and error processes when first setting up this router. Mainly due to limitations of the laptops connecting to it wirelessly. Once I got the bugs worked out this thing performs well. I have a solid signal throughout my three story home and outside. the security features were easy to set up and my connection speed is good. I bought this router initially for $90 but the price has dropped significantly since then. I come from an IT background and discovered that their helpdesk is not the most knowledgable I have ever encountered. Its a good solid product.

ZyXEL M202 802.11g Xtreme Mimo USB 2.0 Wireless Network Adapter Review

ZyXEL M202 802.11g Xtreme Mimo USB 2.0 Wireless Network Adapter
Average Reviews:

I bought two M-202s to upgrade my old 802.11b WEP adapters to 802.11g with WAP. I had some problems during the installation process on Windows XP-SP2 ("Illegal System DLL Relocation") but called costumer support and was given a link to a Microsoft hotfix (KB935448 ). The adapter worked once I downloaded and installed the hotfix. On my first installation, only the administrator could access the adapter. Other users could not access the wireless connection. Then I decided to uninstall the software included in the installation CD and let Windows XP manage the adapter using only the driver included in the installation CD. Everything worked well after these minor setbacks. I have two M-202 working seamlessly with an old Lynksys WRT54G router. Connectivity is good in all areas of my house. Xyzel costumer support was friendly and helpful. I think this adapter is a good bargain for $13.

NETGEAR WPN802 RangeMax Wireless Access Point Review

NETGEAR WPN802 RangeMax Wireless Access Point
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Previous dead spots in my house are gone - replaced with 80+% signal strength and high speed. I was using a Netgear FWAG114 (dual-band b/g) but it couldn't reach everywhere. I have the WPN802 on the top floor of my house in a corner and it reaches everywhere without exception, even my backyard sitting on my porch at the opposite end of the house - which I couldn't do before.
Installation note: by default DHCP is not enabled - you have to perform the initial setup by setting the IP address on your PC and plugging it directly into the unit first - awkward - but it does work as the manual instructs you to do. Some people have complained about the blinking blue rotating lights on the top from the antennaes (who doesn't like blinking blue lights!), anyway, there is a cap (think of a pirate's eye patch without the head band) that fits over the lights if they bother you. Excellent - highly recommended.

D-Link Super G with MIMO Wireless Router DI-634M - wireless router ( DI-634M ) Review

D-Link Super G with MIMO Wireless Router DI-634M - wireless router ( DI-634M )
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
If you're here because you're looking to buy a wireless router and you wanted to check reviews on Amazon (and other places) first, you will immediately have noticed one thing: there isn't a single brand/model of router that doesn't have a fair proportion of contradictory reviews. Some people will say "Wow, router X installed in minutes and has worked flawlesslesy since. It's so much better than that piece of crap router Z." And then you read the review of router Z and someone says "Wow, router Z installed so easily - not like the nightmare I had with router X. Don't ever buy router X, what a piece of junk!."
I had a Netgear WGR614v6. It installed okay, although the configuration manager left a lot to be desired - plus it came with UPnP turned ON, even though it said itself that the default setting was OFF! That caused an hour of frustration. But once installed it worked okay for a few weeks, and then it just stopped working consistently. In the same way that so many routers seem to do for so many reviewers on these sites, without me changing any settings in either the router or the machine, it started dropping connections randomly, and constantly needed rebooting. I installed updated firmware - no improvement. I wondered how this could be happening, but then when I started reading user reviews widely I realised that this is apparently par for the course: every brand I looked at has at least one person complaining about this problem.
All of which is a long preamble to say that you'll have to take any review under advisement. I eventually dediced to go with the D-Link because there were more good customer reviews than bad, and because it got some good reviews from magazines (for whatever that is worth these days). I have to say that so far it has been a good purchase. The installation program was very good - extremely clear and well-thought out. I like the Network Magic program that comes with a 30-day trial for free - in fact I decided to purchase it because it makes the network management so easy. The router has performed consistently since I fired it up: strong signal with no dropouts or mysterious lockups.
From MY experience, then, so far, this has been a good product and I would recommend it. But there are no guarantees in the wireless router world.

This router was so easy to install, it was scary! After years of living in "Linksys hell" with their "b" router, version 2, I decided to take a chance on a new, highly-rated router. Out of the box, I had the Belkin installed and working immediately in 10 minutes or less!! I'm just an average user, but I highly recommend this router to anyone who is thinking of switching to wireless networking in their home. Well worth the money to upgrade.

NETGEAR WPN824NA Wireless Mimo Router Review

NETGEAR WPN824NA Wireless Mimo Router
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have sitting in my garage, a pile of recently purchased routers which have all become dust catchers after hooking up this WPN824 and the accompanying wireless cards. I read the reviews here at Amazon and noticed the negative ratings did not mention whether they were using RangeMax cards on their wireless devices so I thought I would take a chance.
I have both RangeMax and other older "g" cards and the RangeMax cards make a huge difference though the other "g" cards still work better than our previous Linksys and Netgear systems did. Our router is in a back room with the wireless systems through two walls in the front room in the house, and for the first time in years we get a good solid connection to our wireless devices. I should also note that we placed the router on a non-metallic box away from other electronic devices and that seemed to help quite a bit. I am going to purchase a WGXB102 Netgear extender kit to see if it helps the other cards, though I see it is limited to 54Mbs, so I am not sure if it will help the RangeMax system or not, but figured it is worth a try considering the great reviews the kit is receiving. Anyway, I highly recommend this RangeMax system.
PROS: Great range and speed. Nice design.
CONS: The blinking lights cannot be turned off at night and light up the whole room like a disco ball.4-12-06 Update:
There is a problem and Netgear doesn't seem to want to fix it. They do not address it on their forum nor will they respond in an email. Many users (myself included) are getting random network disconnects which are requiring a reboot of the router. It is not fun. The firmware has not been updated for a very long time. Also, in the version 2 model (identified by a v2 on the model number - there is now even a v3), you can now turn the disco light off.

The NETGEAR WPN824 RangeMax Wireless Router lets you easily set up a wireless network in your home so you can share a single internet connection with everyone in your household or office at speeds up to 108 Mbps. Using MIMO technology, the access point offers superior range and eliminates "dead spots" in your home or office.
Beautiful Design and Easy Setup The WPN824 is a very attractive unit with a white exterior and rounded edges. An included plastic stand lets you stand the router on its edge to take up less space. Since the antennas are built in, there are no protrusions extending out of the case, maintaining a clean, elegant form factor. A vertical stand is included for more placement options.
The WPN824 makes it easy for even a novice to set up a wireless network: just plug the included Ethernet cable from your DSL modem, cable modem, or other network connection into the router. An installation wizard guides you through the setup process step-by-step.
The WPN824 employs a web-based interface for configuration, and the router will automatically do the initial setup by getting your DNS settings and determining your IP address. The firmware is also upgradeable via the web interface so you can be sure your router will always be up-to-date.
Fast and Secure The WPN824 supports the 802.11g standard but extends it with Smart MIMO technology that incorporates intelligent internal antennas, allowing it to detect interference from home devices such as microwaves, and adjusting itself accordingly. The upshot is speeds up to 108 Mbps with a longer range and a lack of "dead zones" in your home. When used with NETGEAR's adapters, it can provide up to 500,00 square feet of uninterrupted coverage. You will see the difference when you download music, stream video, or make internet telephone calls. If you still have computers that use 802.11b, don't fret as the router is backwards compatible with the older wireless standard and can be set so all your computers can connect to the network and the WGR614 will automatically figure out the connection type and work accordingly.
In addition to wireless access, there are four 10/100 Mbps RJ-45 Ethernet ports in the back for connecting computers to the network via a fast wired connection.
The WPN824 offers many security options to ensure your data is private. Double firewall protection keeps your network shielded from outside attacks and Network Address Translation (NAT) hides your PCs and files from outside snoopers. To ensure the security of your wireless data, both 40/64-bit and 128-bit WEP encryption is available, as well as WPA (Wi-Fi Protected Access). You can also use MAC address authentication to allow only authorized users onto the network and Wireless Access Control (SSID) to identify authorized wireless network devices.
Keep Tabs on Kids This router is an especially good choice for parents as it allows settings to log all sites that are visited, lets you block specific sites based on whether it contains specific keywords, and lets you set time schedules for certain computers to work.
The NETGEAR WPN824 RangeMax Wireless Router is backed by a 1-year warranty.

Cisco-Linksys WRT310N Wireless-N Gigabit Router Review

I might be a day late and a dollar short but as long as you stand the product up on it's side, there is no heat issue. If you either wall mount or mimic a wall mount by standing it on the side with the ports facing up you won't have a heat issue at all. If you lay it flat, you will have heat issues. I tried it standing up with the ports face down but it got hot. The vents for the heat to escape are on the side with the ports so if you face that side up then there is no heat issues.

Buffalo Technology Wireless-N 150 High Power Router & Access Point WHR-HP-GN (White) Review

Buffalo Technology Wireless-N 150 High Power Router and Access Point WHR-HP-GN (White)
Average Reviews:

If you're not a geek, this router is awesome. It comes with a CD which guides you through installation and secure setup. (The #1 problem with wireless routers is security, and the setup process is the solution.) It supports WPS, which means, you can hold down a button on the router for a few seconds, and then your devices (laptops, many Blu-Ray players) will automatically and securely negotiate connection to the router (no more entering crazy-long passwords).
If you're a geek, Buffalo actively supports DD-WRT (you can download it from their web site). In addition, the specs are great: 32 MB of RAM and 4 MB of flash space.

Buffalo Technology Wireless-G High Power Router and Access Point with High Gain Antenna WHR-HP-G54 Review

Buffalo Technology Wireless-G High Power Router and Access Point with High Gain Antenna WHR-HP-G54
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Best features for the open-source router firmware enthusiast:
- built in pre-amp on Rx and power amp on Tx. Note that it's not real MIMO as the name might lead you to believe, but the amps make it have "MIMO-like performance" (which I've found is true).
- high gain antenna
- so it has a better S/N ratio than the Linksys WRT54GL, which has been the defacto standard
- support for 'afterburner' protocol (ie. 125 Mbit/s)
- Widely supported by open source firmware, eg. OpenWRT, DD-WRT, Tomato, X-Wrt, etc. And those enable it to have the most wonderful features, eg:
- WMM for smooth VOIP calls using T-Mobile's UMA phones
- WDS for creating a set of cascaded routers blanketing a large area
- Adjusting the power output directly on the Atheros on-board chip
- WPA2 with AES (WPA2 more secure than WPA, AES encryption scheme faster than TKIP), plus the ability to support mixed modes so that older devices that don't support WPA2/AES can use WPA/TKIP)
- and so much more. If you don't know about the merits of open source router firmware, you should read up!
Challenges:
- DD-WRT, OpenWrt, X-Wrt, Tomato or other open source firmware needs to be flashed with TFTP - you can't do it with the web GUI. But it's easy. Just requires timing the transfer as you switch it on.
- Buffalo encrypts their firmware so if you screw it up and want to revert back to Buffalo firmware, you can't just upload it from the web gui of whatever firmware you've installed. You have to upload the decrypted version from DD-WRT's site, and then from there you can upload the latest Buffalo version from their website.
Note: because of the built-in power amp, you shouldn't just set the power output to jam out as much juice as it can. That will make the output signal distort and actually decrease the range. I found that the best S/N ratio is obtained at about 75 mW. (Default setting is 28 mW).
